30ths, Weddings, work and .... more 30ths

It seems to be that time of year with b'day celebrations abound a couple of weddings thrown in for good measure and being flat out working for the man! I have decided to do a brief update of the the last couple of months and blame my poor updates on lack of time but really just have been lazy.

So I have been to Bowen and Cairns for work which was really good as hadn't been that far north before and was awesome to check out the farming up that way and also doing some touristy stuff. Went to Goulburn for Stu Davos 30th, undertook a photo scavenger hunt through Sydney for Freds 30th and a visit to Boorowa for Daley and Lucy's wedding. Winter is now well and truly here in Sydney with wind and rain and plenty of snow falling on the mountains but because of commitments to hockey and work looks like I might be missing a ski trip this year.

Fundraising events and flatout for work... and some socialising

I have been keeping busy of late doing a variety of activities and due to the time of the year keeping very busy spraying orchards and vegetables - going to have plenty of fruit for Christmas!

Late October was the annual Sydney University Hockey Club Presentation Night, this year the venue was the Grandstand, located at the No 1 oval at Sydney University. The venue used to be the pub I frequented on Wednesday nights as an Undergrad, things have definitely changed and its not a sticky floored uni pub anymore but quite a good function venue.

It was a great night and I walked away with Social Person of the year, possibly getting too old to be winning this award, its another mug for the collection.

I have been out cycling regularly as I had entered the Sydney to Gong bike ride (Nov 7, 2010) which is a fundraiser for the MS society. The ride is 90km starting at Sydney Park, Newtown and finishing at Stuart Park, Wollongong going through the national park at Waterfall. I did the ride with a couple of mates in a team called Team O' Yeah, we raised around $2500 going to a great and needy cause. I did the ride in a touch under 4 hours including stops, not going to brake any records but I will keep working on the cycling. The event is not a race and very social so thorough-ably enjoyable with the sun out at Wollongong its great to relax at the end with a barbie and beer, I would recommend for all those who enjoy a day out to participate.

I thought after the gong ride why nt continue my fundraising and decided on movember, which is much easier than the ride, well for me anyway. I have a little slow on fundraising for this at the moment and really need to get into it as this is for prostate cancer and beyond blue - helping those with depression. NZ 2010

Headed over to NZ for my annual ski trip, So an early start with Fred and Amanda took off and flew into Queenstown after being told 31kg over the total weight limit and let on a

ains being able to see all the mountains and . On arrival we headed directly to our hotel, Peppers Beacon Resort to catch up with Nige and Bevan our NZ counterparts - Tui, Speights and Ferg for dinner cant get much more kiwi. We had

Emma join our ranks for a few days, which gave another excuse to go out in town and have Ferg burger for a 2nd time.

We had a great time and hit up Cardrona, the Remarkables, the conditions and snow were very variable, it was still a great time and had some great days towards the end of the week.

After Queenstown we jumped in the car and headed to Methven to catch up with Sammie and hit up Mt Hutt and Porters these were some great days and there is some pretty exciting plans in the works for Porters putting in a new village and gondolas so will have to check it out in about 4 years.

AFL, Bledisloe Cup, Horse Races

and Mumford and Sons

Well been a busy week and have tried to fit in as much as possible in regards to extra curricular activities before making my come back from injury for hockey this weekend. On the weekend I headed down to Melbourne to catch up with Dad and his cycling group who were having a gents weekend away.

Part 1 - So who can climb?

Upon arrival we made our way to the hotel dropped off our gear and headed straight out to a bit of rock climbing. The climbing was at the Hardrock CBD indoor centre on Swanston St, this was a really good venue with plenty of climbing options, it took a while to get started as staff were a bit slow getting onto doing the required safety (no one really wanted to help out) but once this was done we all went off and tried our arm at climbing, it was good to get back into climbing but really struggled as havent done in ages, will have to look into climbing walls round Sydney and finding a climbing partner so can catch up to Travis who's leading climbs in and around Whistler.

Part 2 - Essendon destroy Saints

After finishing up climbing and everyone had developed a thirst we headed to the St Kilda vs Essendon at Etihad Stadium via Young and Jacksons one of Melbourne oldest pubs (and famous supposedly) for a well earnt pint. The game was all in all disappointing, I had tipped the Saints

for a 20 point win in the end they were smashed by the Bombers by 40 points. I was hoping for a close game, Essendon were on fire and looked in control the whole time and basically were in

cruise control from the start of the second quarter. Upon leaving the game we wandered back to our hotel and visited some of the pubs Melbourne is famous for.

Part 3 - So lets lose some money!

Headed to Caulfield race course for the last race day of the winter season. This was a good day out, all from the riding group in there Orange shirts with everyone asking if th

ey were Dutch, I skipped this embarrassment. The weather wasn't to bad but my tips on the races were horrible and so were Dads, we got one return each, the whole day - on the same race and both paying low odds so didn't cover for the bets but was still fun.

Part 4 - The rugby, possibly a game to forget

The start of the tri-nations and a lot of expectations were up for this game as the All Blacks and Wallabies had destroyed Sth Africa. It started well with a try to the Au

ssies though the All Blacks quickly retaliated. From there it was alot of one way traffic and Joubert loved blowing his whistle making dubious decisions and holding up the game, the group except Dad and I left with at least 20 to go in the 2nd half which says alot about the game and the end score of 49 - 28 with the Aussies lucky of that score and if the whistle hadn't gone so often could of been worse but then again if Aussies weren't a player down in the 2nd half could of been a closer affair, will

swallow my pride and say though the All Black would of still won much better team for this game. At least went home to watch th NZ vs Aus hockey match for the champions trophy and the Aussies won 9-1 with some great play looking on track for 3 champions trophy in a row with coming through pool undefeated.

Part 5 - Definately not smarter than a 5th grader!

I flew back in from Melbourne early and got to coach my 8th grade girls in time, we had 10 players this week and I think for the rest of the season we will start to have full squad. We lost the game 10 -1 which was very disappointing but I think not unexpected with such a rotation of players. After this there was SUHC pub trivia on at the Coopers arms, there was pretty low turn

out for this about 20 odd club members so split into teams of 3. I teamed up with Elle and Lloyd, we were travelling alright and in 3rd with 2 rounds to go and from here we crashed and burned, and ended up well off the pace with the music and miscellaneous round killing us.

If anyone is in Sydney and keen for trivia, Fred and I head to the DOG in Randwick on Wednesdays, good test of brain power and a good way to spend Wednesday evening.

Part 6 - Mumford & Sons at the Enmore

Passed on trivia this week to head to Mumford and Sons at the enmore theatre with Fred, Amanda and Erin. This was a great gig and thoroughly enjoyable. The band put on a great show that was full of energy and even played some new songs they had recently written, one being

written in Melbourne whilst they were touring, interesting to see if it makes the next album. Enmore is a great venue and perfectly suited to this style of gig. This badn had had a meteoric rise in Australia playing at the Oxford Art Factory 12 months ago to headlining Splendour in the Grass. Enjoyed it all some of best tunes were The Cave and rollaway your stone.

WINTER IN SYDNEY

Bits and Pieces have been happening since the last update, mainly work trying to plow through reports to be written up for submission. Winter in Sydney has been wet and cold so not a whole lot happens on the farming front especially regarding chemicals so the up coming summer is going to be incredibly busy.

Hockey has been continuing and even though still not playing seem to be doing heaps as equipment officer for the club and coaching 8th grade womens. Coaching can be quite frustrating and if I was a professional would of lost contract by now, conceded 28 goals in 3 weeks scored 6 - possibly something to do with no GK and only have 7 -9 players each week, uni holidays can be a killer - the aim for the season is to get a full team for at least two rounds and a victory would be nice, the players are good and team often in the game until last 10 mins.

I have been looking actively at skis and bindings and after doing some shopping around Sydney bought some new Dynastar Legend px 12 bindings on the net from the states (departmentofgoods.com) even with the $90US shipping these still ended up being $100AUS cheaper than what I could get here, only took 3 days to arrive. Going to hold out on the skis until demo some in NZ and then weigh up if should be spending coin on more skis.

With hockey comes all the nights out especially when you have a bye weekend its a good excuse for a round of pub golf so the SUHC 5/6 squad met in Surry Hills and visited 9 pubs and 1 convenience store. Pub golf is basically a pub crawl with a few more rules and of course you have to be dressed in the proper attire. This year we had pars 1, 2 & 3 - the most challenging holes being the jug hole, par 3 and one thought the milk hole (par 2) but this proved a saviour. The night ended in Newtown, with Jonny and Ruth sharing the check jacket.

At the 4th just outside a store which wasn't expecting to sell quite so much milk. Charlie held the lead from the 1st to the 7th but stumbled on the bloody mary with a poor strategy, the lemon ice filter just stopped everything. This is where I dropped a shot and lost the lead as thought had finished my milk but spilt a few drops, nearly cried.

The end of the round back at Coopers, where we always seem to end up - albeit a few participants short. Thanks to Charlie for organising and for all making a good night!

My golf with Hendo was much calmer but couldnt seem to do anything right, went to Bondi Golf course a par 3 course (1 par 4), would recommend this course to anyone who wants to show off Sydney or needs to improve their short game, right on the North Bondi point and overlooks the beach, and see right down to the harbour bridge and pretty good value at $20 for 9 holes and $25 for 18. Sorry no photos of the course as camera got left at home.

Work, Surgery and Maddison's 18th.

I have been busy writing reports whilst its been non stop raining in Sydney for the last 3 weeks - everyone is complaining but this is almost normal conditions we just have been in drought for years. I am slowly catching up to where I am supposed to be, there was a mitigating factor why all the admin work is getting done. I have had trouble with ankles for last few years and had surgery in my left ankle 2 years ago in Canberra and all of a sudden started having issues with my right and surprise surprise needed another surgery, so in for an arthrotomy and bone removal, so off my feet for a few days. This is resultant from years of sport and not resting when roll ankles, in laymens terms is removal of excess bone that has calcified on joint. So no hockey for the rest of the year or running so have to look at some other exercise regimes such as swimming or cycling, though I am allowed to ski still which is good cause I have booked a 2 week trip to NZ in August - Queenstown and Meth'ven.
As I am allowed to ski I am looking again at new skis to have a play with looking currently at the Fischer Watea 94, though havent skied these have read alot about and number of rave reviews so now to find if can buy in Aus or import.Maddison turned 18, apart from making me feel old the family all met up in Bathurst for dinner and lunch, it was good fun and a good time albeit weird having all the family out at the pub together. Travis is also back in the country so all together for the first time in a couple of years.

Hockey, Work and new place in Sydney

Well after 6months finally starting to settle in got my office sorted and getting around to writing the reports for the trials I have been conducting over the last few months albeit a bit slowly. Hockey as per usual is taking up too much time as said yes to keeping 6th grade, playing on the field 7th grade coaching womens 8th grade and looking after all the equipment. Its all good fun though been nursing a few injuries and hopefully that don't flare up to much.
I have also gone and bought some new golf clubs and hope to see them in the next week or so and looking at memberships in Sydney for the summer, crazy amount of money to walk round a course to swear and wonder why your out and about.
Heading off to New Zealand in August for the annual ski trip with some Whistler buddies, got a couple spots left so if interested give me a call, 10 days fly in Queenstown, fly out Christchurch, car hire and accommodation for all around 2K, hope I don't spend that much on booze!

Have had some issues with chem mask spraying and as a result had to shave off the beard for OH&S issues, may grow it back just in process of purchasing a full face mask, to overcome inhaling pesticides!

The Start of Sprin g

I have started my new job in Sydney and I am currently living with my grandma in Wentworth Falls as I try to get settled. For work I was required to get a new digital SLR camera and recieved it the other day it is an Olympus E-520. I have been having a bit of a play with it in the backyard as all the flowers are coming out for Spring, I am no photographer but think it does a pretty good job.

Time to depart Canberra

After a 2 year stint with GRDC in Canberra, I have been offered a great opportunity and a new role in agricultural R&D with Bayer CropScience. It is with mixed emotions that I must depart Canberra and make the move back to Sydney as I was really getting quite settled and enjoying myself.

I am finishing up on the 17th July and moving out pretty much straight away as Louis and Ash have a new flatmate keen to move in, I am having a two week break and then start up in my new role on the 3rd of August which will involve a pretty full on induction and training program for 3 months.

Well its already June and I've been pretty slack on the updates!

Its been a pretty flat out month or so since the last update. So will attempt to give a brief of whats been happening -

Hockey continues and I have now established my self in the ANU3.1 team and we are travelling pretty well so hopefully their will be some finals hockey played. Attended the Hawaiian night for ANU hockey and went all out applying fake tan and turning up in a grass skirt and bikini top. All a little over the top but if you're going to dress up why not do it properly! Hockey the next day was the derby against 3.2s with a couple of us struggling and resulted in a 1-1 draw, probably a fair result. Since then we have continued on our winning way to make the top 4, the table is really close from 3rd down to 7th so have to really be on our game week in, week out and overcome the top guys to bring them back into the fold.

The major update is that after 2 years in Canberra with GRDC I am moving back to Sydney to take on a new role with Bayer CropScience as a development specialist, a good opportunity and it will present plenty of challenges especially as will be based form a home office. A big plus is that I will be getting my hands dirty again designing and conducting field trials primarily in horticulture and viticulture. The first challenge is to rememeber what I learnt in Uni and through work!

On the brewing front I have been very slack and pretty sure running out of excuses for Pinko and after stumbling upon some left over ginger beer on the weekend which tasted exceptional really going to have to pull my finger out and put on a new brew, which I hope may be ready before I depart Canberra in late July.

Lest We Forget - Dawn Service

It was ANZAC day on Saturday and Stu, Roberts and I made the early start to the Australian War Memorial for the dawn service. The weather was not great and the ACT was welcoming in winter with snow in the alps and wind and rain in Canberra but it was definitely worth the early start and conditions to go to the service, which was quite a surreal experience and I recommend to all those that can make the effort to attend a dawn service. In the dark there was thousands of people standing around and when the announcement was made that the service was due to start in 5 minutes the crowd was silent from then on and throughout the service. The clouds parted for the service, the morning star glowed bright notifying of the impending dawn and cockatoos and magpies roused from there nests to make for an exceptional morning. the sun rose after the service as we walked down memorial ave towards our car and really made me think of what had been sacrificed by so many.

More sport, new toys and got to love debt

I have been keeping on top of this fitness kick and it feels good starting to really notice a difference especially since I said to the boys at cricket that when the hockey season started back up would go back into keeping. So preseason for ANU has already started with fitness and skills sessions and put the gear back on and really enjoyed it and think might be able to get back up playing consistently in higher grades, if all goes well maybe even sneak a game in 1s but thats dependant on who turns up for the season. Trials on the 14th possibly against Wollongong Uni and also going to Albury hockey carnival for SUHC again on the easter long weekend, so there go the weekends for winter.

Because I am playing as a keeper again and club gear does the job its never quite as good as your own, so I have decided to purchase a new kit, so looks like will be playing for a few more years yet to make it a worth while investment.

Because hockey training has started it also means that the ski season is approaching, so discussions on weekends , day trips and weeks up at the snow have started and as always this will probably send the accountant into fits as really probably save some $ but its there to be spent isn't it, forgot to mention the possible NZ trip.

In other news flat out with work and getting a bit of travel so off to Northern NSW and Sthn Qld for a week then back for a week of meetings, sometimes I do miss the uni lifestyle but don't think could ever go back to it.

So all this adventure is going to keep me in debt but its all good fun plus the Super 14s is on so all those home games for the Brumbies I am getting along to, though I can't wait for the Waratahs vs Brumbies cause then I can support the Tahs and criticise the Brumbies without all the members scowling at me.

Anyway keeping busy but I have got lazy on the squash front but will definately have to fire that back up and done some climbing but never enough, need longer weekends and a shorter work week.

New Years Resolutions, Which one will be followed?

Well Happy New Years and Merry Christmas to all.
Thought would throw in a short update cause its that time again, no photos cause this was misplaced on New Years Eve in Sydney, its all good though as was just left at someones house so after a short bout of stress, losing some more hair I could relax and try to remember my new years resolutions and see if could be achievable.

The 3 main ones were get fit (lose another 14kg), drink less and get rid of my debts.

The question therefore remains will any of these be sucessful First weekend - drank to much whilst out to dinner paying on my credit card!

So just pondering on new years resolutions and do people succeed at these or is it just to state what we already know aloud to the world so that it stays on the forefront of our memory for January and some of February.

Well I have been doing the fitness thing but this started before the new year and is continuing, I did a budget for the year and should be able to get rid of most of my debts and so far this year have drank less (no beer but I spose wine counts). I will try and keep you updated on the trials and tribulations of resolutions whilst I remember and come 2010 will they be any different!
So who else has had some resolutions and will they be fulfilled?

A year nearly over, a hair cut, a road trip and the start of end of year parties

The end of the year is rapidly approaching and everything seems to be getting hectic at work and socially.

Was going to go over the year but can hardly remember what happened last month. The hair was starting to get a bit long and so thanks to Laura now have a new haircut that should last me through to the winter possibly even the next summer, though I think that might show some receding hairline.

Jess and Rimsy had a house warming with probably the worst weather we've had in a long time but was a brilliant night and kept warm by crowding round the fire. Great place Jess and Rimsy, thanks for the brilliant hospitality.

Pinko, Jen, Roberts and I headed across to Orange for Ange and Ant's housewarming in Orange via Marks place in Bathurst, think nearly drank Mark out of his beer yet again, Thanks for the great feed and beers. Trialled Dave's new pouring system for the home brew kegs and after a few little bugs got it sorted and now the kegs are portable. After arriving in Orange, caught up with everyone and settled down for a great day and the weather even stayed reasonable all day, pretty good for Orange. Ange and Ant put on a great night and the breakfast definately was good for me but not sure if helped on the diet front, Thanks Ant & Ange.

Christmas parties have started and we had the GRDC christmas party out at Pialligo Wine Estate, good night and great to catch up with everyone out of work, alot quieter for me this year and pretty sure thats a good thing especially as our housewarming was the next day. Had a small gathering for our housewarming by the pool and bbq then to our apartment for some drinks and then out to town, Thanks to those who came it was a great night, those who couldnt make we will have to organise another gathering in the near future and really utilise the pool.

Another Month, another post - Keeping Everyone Happy

Well I have all but finished moving into the new place, been flat out at work in the middle of assessing projects and tenders, counting down to Christmas, trying to get fit and probably still going out too much!
After moving house I had to fly upto Noosa for the weekend, Had a great time and caught up with Lisa, Corinne, Kellie and Kacey. This was for Kaceys wedding besides the beach it was great, all the girls lookes stunning and all the best for the future Kacey.

After this it has been a lot of meetings and the like had a staff development trip to Penrith and Camden which was pretty interesting went and checked out the Tip Top bakery in Chullora and enjoyed the free piklets and still have crumpets at home. This was followed with a visit to the whitewater centre in Penrith , this was a lot of fun and made me really want to get back out into the water for summer. Dinner was had on a paddle steamer with a country and western theme, was a great night. The final day was a visit to the Plant Breeding Institute in Cobbity and was pretty hard after the days before hand.

Other socialising has been Ash's bday which was a good time, all be it messy night, sorry for the late arrival the free champagne and the like held me up, trivia the other night where our group of five was doing well until 2 music rounds and finally the Melbourne Cup which was very quiet because no luck on the horses this year.

Have been working pretty hard on the fitness front with now walking/running to work daily as well as soccer, squash, cricket and boot camp.

Busy few weeks coming up work wise and other with house warmings and christmas parties, plus the lure of the coast for some spear fishing, plus Roberts making the move to Canberra to make things interesting.

An Update of Life in the Can

Hey All, so been a while since I have done an update and though I am currently flat out at work thought some time for procrastination was necessary.
Looks as though I am going to be sticking around in Canberra for a while longer as job is going well and keeping me on my toes plus Louis, Ash and I have just signed a new lease for 12 months at a new place. Will be moving into Civic so no excuses must run or ride to work, keep this whole fitness attempt going! Place in Civic has pool, gym tennis and squash courts so no excuse, but am looking forward to the free squash, sure beats the $20/hr paying at the moment. Though centre of town does have its dangers $5 meals at UNi pub could be a regular occurance.
In other news not a whole lot the snow has gone so time to go out and get some spear fishing gear and organise a few trips down the coast every alternate weekend, have started cricket down here every second sunday batting number 6 until they find how bad I really am, bunch of hockey guys going out for a hit in the sun, with a few cold brews.
Playing squash with Pinko and Ash regularly these days, beat Ash yesterday in one game now need just to not choke agains Pinko and get that win! Started bootcamp with a group known as G-train 3 times a week in the mornings and got a shock to the system when found out how incredibly unfit I was, though starting to feel heaps better because of it and was hoping to be fit enough to go to Gulmarg in India to ski for 2 weeks but the Aussie dollar drop really isn't helping that cause, plus the debts I should be paying off.
Anyway thats whats happening in a nutshell here in Canberra, mouse plagues, locusts, Diamondback moth, lack of chemical and a good forecast crop for a number of areas is keeping me in a job and definately shouldn't be procrastinating, Uni teaches some habits you just can't relenquish!

Snowfest '08

A group of 10 braved the poor snow forecast and headed down to Guthega for a week at the snow, many of us thought it was going to be more of a hiking holiday and some even had their fishing rods packed, I took along my new skis in hope of testing them out. We arrived on the sunday evening rocked up to our lodge and looked at a bare mountain this was demoralizing but we were going to make it fun and started with poker, 500, pictionary and charades which was a great laugh of course some dutch courage did help the acting !
We skied on monday with the masses on front valley and blue cow but still had fun getting back into the swing of things it then started to belt down snow. The end of the day exhausted and wet with the snow still falling we had the fun of fitting chains that were designed for a datsun 200Y onto a Ford Xr6, we made it home with a few stops and starts to ensure that the car was still in one piece and then watched it snow all tuesday. Hiked to the top of Mt guthega up Parachute , the steepest run on the mountain to get some fresh runs, was exhausting but good fun. Then Guthega was opened up for basically locals only so had half dozen runs for under 100 people, was great fun and had great days for skiing no jacket necessary or gloves for that matter!
Big thanks to all for making a very enjoyable weekend and especially Charles for organising and letting us stay at his lodge.
The new skis went well an still rate the K2 silencers as great value for money skis and can handle most conditions well, the season looks as though is kicking off and keen to head back up with more of the mountain open, some weekend warrior trips a definite must once all the school kids have gone home.

BBQ and Rugby at Bruce

Well as we get more and more settled into the life at Bruce, a night out at O'neils I decided a BBQ would be a good idea and mix it in with the Australia vs Ireland rugby match.

So a group of us gathered round had cheese and pate all very proper followed by some sausages from the BBQ, must be getting more mature as we even had salad.

Thanks Leah for the cake it was delicious and some even had it for breakfast!

We tried the first Redbox home brew which was a malty whispering wheat and it passed the test - was drinkable, actually not to bad at all, now time for Ash to step upto the plate and put on a brew of his choosing.

Was a great night and thanks to all who came, next time I will make sure i dont have to leave my own barbie to go and play hockey!

Other news I bought another pair of skis (K2 silencers) so I am hoping that we start have soming snow storms in Aus before my first trip up which is only a couple of weeks away!

Just to keep you upto date

Hey all thought would let you know whats been happening. Since moving into Bruce we have all but got organised, all we need know is a floor mat, now have the home phone hooked up an extra fridge for beer and chairs for the dining table, Ash contributing to the house. We haven't yet cracked the home brew but this isnt far off.

At work I got a promotion so now a Project Manager for Practices and been given a heap more work which will keep me on my toes portfolio covers Entomology, virology and pulse pathology. So Canberra is treating me well actually not to bad once you get accustomed to the place, though still doing plenty of trips away from the place, and waiting for the snow.

First Brew for the New Residence

As we get gradually settled into our new place we finally bought a can opener so we could open the malt and brew cans. So the first brew for the new place is a Wheat beer, and using malt for that extra bit of flavour, so nows it wait and see, hopefully will be joining Phil and Pinko with some homebrews in around 6 weeks.

ANT AND ANGES Wedding

Congratulations to Ange and Ant Spruce who tied the knot on the weekend. It was a great and fun times had by all.

Took some photos though going to have to work out some bugs in camera as a number came out quite, blurry could have something to do with the operator.

The ceremony was held at the Catholic Church then to the Golf Club for the reception where everyone dressed up helped celebrate this great occasion.

New House, new flatmates new Toy!

Well after months of putting up with the crazy rental market that is Canberra, a house or rather an apartment has been signed over to us. Louis, Ash and I are creating a comfortable space for ourselves out at Bruce, very much going to turn into a residential pub. So to celebrate I decided to go an buy a TV and well you can't have a good TV without a good home theatre system.
Bought the Panasonic viera 70a and 1200w home theatre system, did a bit of research and these came out on top for cost versus quality. I have no complaints at the moment except why does there need to be so many wires and cords, don't even have Fox hooked up yet, thats a few more leads!
I am looking forward to transporting my bed to thh house and getting out of my swag, a comfy sleep what a novelty! A big thanks to all those who let me crash at their place whilst trying to find a place, such a crazy market and high housing prices really restrict investing in property, can get a place in Sydney for the same price in Canberra (renting is the same situation), just need to start getting paid more or wait for the market to come back.

ALBURY HOCKEY CARNIVAL

On the weekend after a great Thursday night, Off to Albury I went for the Easter Long Weekend to watch SUHC Rug Dodgers, Salad Dogers and Lions play. The carnival has lost some of the shine froom its glory days when a hundred teams would show up but those who go still have a brilliant time. There was some hockey played, some beers drunk and friendships made.

MEXICAN NIGHT AT THE MONC

The Monc has been a gracious host to many a party and on Thursday night the theme was Mexican so with many sunbreros, dodgy moustaches, ponchos and many spansih signs we celebrated Claires 21st and also welcomed the new residents to the Monc, Evan, Simon & Claire.
Ash, Louie and I have found residence in Bruce but don't know if we can ever compete with the Monc, a great night was had by all from all accounts though the memories from this night is a little rusty as everyone can only remember snippets!

NEW ANKLE?

Well been a little while since the last update and have been keeping busy with work and all.
Turned 25, definately now mid 20s.
Australia Day went to the Adelaide Cricket Test with Cooke, Brownie and Rob, was a great couple of days out of the office and catching up with the boys, Adelaide is a great city. Spearfishing down the coast for a day with the gang and well next time I will hopefully be able to dive as wont have a cold, I caught nothing but Pinko got a red morwong and Ash got a decent leather jacket right at the end of the day.
I just went under the knife yet again, this time for my left ankle which has been causing me grief for some time now, so looking forward to some normal movement in a month or so, just in time for the rugby or hockey season, still trying to decide! So not allowed to run but can walk almost normally and was only on crutches for a couple of days. Stiches out this week and then Physio. Happy with the way things went as no ligaments needed fixing just a huge amount of bone removal, so I guess now when I roll an ankle go to the Physio or doc not just run it out!
Also guess a few congratulations are in order
To Jo and Pete on your engagement, would of loved to have been in Sydney for party but a little groggy!

Welcome to 2008

How time flies, another year has gone past! I hope all had a good christmas and new years , I enjoyed the break from work but wish it had been longer. I was pretty busy and clocked up alot of k's car now well and truly due for a service!
This year christmas was with the Lancahshire family in Williamstown, Melbourne. Very enjoyable and good to catch up with everyone, after this is was to Cowra for a couple of days then to Toronto for the McMaster christmas and some time out on the lake, turned up and the boat had over heated so was in the shop but got it out just in time for some wake boarding. Coogee for New Years and now back at work wondering if actually got to relax during my break!

Another week, another post!

This must almost be a record of this blog with such a rapid update of whast been going on. Anyway to the point I have been pretty busy at work finishing up all the loose ends prior to the close of the office for christmas were all go away to eat, drink and be merry! On that note MERRY CHRISTMAS

In between work I have been trying to stay busy and on thursday with Lauren and Elene went to see Ash and his band The Bedford Decision rock out at the ADFA end of year party. It was great and definately will go and see again. Due to having twilight soccer on I couldn't stay on and party with the band backstage. On twilight soccer I am really enjoying it and thinking it may be doing something for my fitness only a little though as usually end up at O'Neils straight after to rehydrate, hopefully my body holds together for the rest of the season.

On Friday in the office the traditional Secret Santa was held with a special visit from Santa. It was a great afternoon with drinks nibbles and presents. Though whoever got me my present obviously knows me to well and I've only been round for 6 months!

After work on Friday I jumped in the car and drove down the coast to Pambula to help celebrate Leif and Taras wedding. It was a great service and Tara turned up in a red dress, I think it shocked some perhaps with that aim a little but really suited her and both were over the moon. The reception was held just down the road at the Grange with great food and music. It was great to catch up with close mates to celebrate the wedding and the breakfast at Leifs and Tara's the next day was superb, thanks guys and all the best for the future!

GRDC Christmas Party

Well its that time of year Christmas is roling round and everyone lets loose and forgets there with people they work with and this year I was one of if not the main culprit with getting booted from the pub getting thrown into the rear of a car and carried home, ALL CLASS.

Weekends away and going out on a School Night

You'd think that you learn from previous Thursday nights at O'Neils that once you head into town its going to be a hard day at the office the next, this one ended up being very hard!

Mark Pinko was up after exams and to celebrate along with the end of Movember decided a couple of pints at O'Neils then onto Moosehead for a couple of quiet cheap drinks, 3 am and still out who knows what happened to the few cheap drinks?

Well after sleeping in getting to work an hour late perservered through the day to then head out to ACS drinks at the moose with both Pinkos, Jen , Rimsy, Jess and Sam, this was a great time just chilling out catching up and enjoying free booze and food for a couple of hours. Sam and I then had to head to another party to help Tom and Michelle celebrate their engagement, CONGRATULATIONS and all the best for the future guys, also Thanks for having us along.

On Saturday I decided why not drive to Sydney to catch up with some hockey mates and have a game of cricket with the Gnomes, 300km later get to a field that is somewhat submerged and no game in sight so off it was to Renwick to start the planned grad/bday/welcome/christmas party.

This was a great evening and worth the drive but glad I dont do it every weekend especially the drive home which always drags on a bit and probably would have to live on 2 minute noodles for the rest of my life.

Evolution of the MO!

Well its Movember and a great excuse to grow a mo again with all the money raised goeing to a good cause, prostate cancer and depression, not going to bad on the fundrasing front at the moment but any more donations are more than welcome. I thought that I would put in a few photos from the start of the month through to now, I am again attached to the mo and I am going to find it difficult to get rid of it, though think work will probably have something to say about that.

In other news keeping busy with work, missed Hay races due to Pete injurying his ankle the night before so wouldn't of been much fun. Now have a busy few weeks from now to Christmas with a few trips to Sydney, a trip down the coast to Leif and Taras wedding then to Melbourne for Christmas with the Lancashire clan and still trying to work out what to do for New Years!

Birthdays Galore

My little bro has returned from his travels and came to visit so out ot dinner then to Elenes to celebrate her birthday which is this week. Had a great time and didnt even wake up hung over. It was then a road trip to Bathurst to catch up with all the family for dinner and a night out to celebrate Travis' Bday since he missed his 21st as was in Canada and again he got sick which sucks so thats 2 years in a row going to have to sort that out! Going to keep this post short and hopefully will have some more updates soon, Hay Races this weekend always an adventure!

Whats been Happening?

Well its been a while since an update. So a quick run through of whats been happening!

On the queesn b'day long weekend toured to Griffith to catch up with Pete and Lis at Tabita Feedlot, great weekend golf, tour of the property, partying of course there was a bonfire and just a good time catchimg up as had been a long time. Probably the most labour I've done in ages and all I did was collect wood and carry some chairs!

Thanks for the hospitality and was a great drive tested the 380 out it loves freeway driving, good on fuel and gotta love cruise control.

SUHC PRESENTATION DINNER - even though i didn't play for the club this year I am still finding it hard to let go, so chimed in on another function. Really enjoyed the night as got to catch up with a lot of people hadnt seen in a long time and good to see things haven't changed in the club. Pres are probably never the best idea but this year it was steins at side bar, cheers Crenno, not a bad way start the evening!

ANUHC Presentation Dinner - as a glutton for punishment the following weekend i attended another dinner and another long evening but really enjoyed it getting to know new team mates, so now the decision rugby or hockey next season? Will wait till the summer is near over before that decision.

So now that I'm upto date travelling around with work to gather information for environmental plan for the grains industry (in Adelaide qantas club drinking free beer whilst typing this), Off to Perth and Dalwallinu next week and Albury after that, is fun but don't get much if any free time! Anyway all have to do now is work out who to tip for the Melbourne cup.

Its not a country party without a bonfire - got in before the total ban by about a day!

A Hockey Premiership

On Saturday I prepared for another hockey final, I have been in hockey finals for the last 6 years, getting knocked out during the preliminary finals, last year making it to the grand final and just losing, so this tradition had to be broken! After moving to Canberra I have been playing for ANU 6th grade, I had thought that because I came so late through the season that I would just be training, but they needed players. In the final round I strained my hammy thinking the season was over, Atlas physio did some great work and I made it back in time for the Grand Final.

The game as alot of finals are was quite scrappy and both teams could not dominate the other, both teams had there chances but couldn't convert, I think there was 3 decent chances I missed, one hit the keeper, one mishit and then I just forgot to trap the ball as was already thinking of the post goal celebration! So as the clock wound down and extra time looked imminent after ANU stopping a Tuggeranong short corner 2 minutes from time we moved it to there end and got into the circle, Short corner with 5 seconds to go! So with the pressure mounting I was watching from the bench so that the guys who had played all season could finish the game, the final whistle sounded as we set up for the short, Push to our hitter, trap lay off to our captain who strolled in a flicked it from the spot for a goal!!! Minor and Major premiers!

Thanks to Phil, Ash, Elene and Trace who came out and cheered, it was a great day and I hope you enjoyed it.

The following day to recover it was another round of golf with Rimsy, Andrew and Tom out at Gunghalin Lakes golf course, not bad course alot of walking, water which we all found at some point, then to the clubhouse to watch the Eels play the Storm, the Eels lost but since I had won my premiership it wasn't to much of a downer. So now to the summer, ankle surgery which after putting off for a few years will now have to happen and what ever else happens

Return of the Camera so back to blogging!!

Well just got my camera back and thankfully was covered by warranty so now will continue with updating my blog after getting over my shite week! the hammys all good with a grand final this weekend, 2 o'clock at Lyneham for anyone wanting something to do on saturday in Canberra. Anyway at work hungover again really got to learn that thursday nights are not ideal to go out on, but had an excuse helping Trace celebrate her 21st, think will be one of many celebratory drinks in the lead up to the event. Anyway added some photos from golf the other week and the drinks on Thursday evening, so much for the supposed detox I lasted 3 days, though the return of Nightmare at the Fox was very enjoyable so now Pinko and Jen can host the ultimate Party with singstar, scrabble and nightmare, vol 1 to 3!

Golf is a great way to spend sundays especially with the current weather it is an awesome day out. Rimsy was the winner on the day with me bringing up the tail, going to make excuses and blame the hammy.

What A SHIT of a week, things surely can only get BETTER!

Well I was going to post up some photos from the weekend but well my camera LCD screen smashed on Sunday afternoon, so thats got to go back to the shop and warranty better cover it or I am likely to snap!
I had planned on reviewing the car and golf on the weekend but thought would just vent with this post and ramble away. Well after picking up the new car on Friday things were looking up, I mean one of the keys had a flat battery but thats easy fixed covered by warranty just have to organise a time. The car drives really well quite comfortable and plenty of power so just have to watch for speeding tickets as sitting on the freeway at 120 and the cars just coasting along at 2000revs.
But I digress why has my weeks been so crap well it all started on Saturday after a great night out I woke up suprisingly well and felt quite refreshed though will steer clear of cask wine and passion pop for a long time to come that stuff really doesn't taste good no wonder its so cheap, man I am rambling on today!
Went to hockey and started off a little rusty but not to bad, swapped to the right midfield after about 25 minutes and started playing well, as I made a break down the right I streched to the ball and felt a snap in my left hamstring, I tell you what it hurt less breaking my hands! So that meant I missed the 2nd half of the game and looks as though I will be missing all the finals just as was starting to get back into hockey plus excessive amounts of physio! SHIT thing Number 1.
On Sunday I still went to golf with Rimsy and Pinko, this was a great day for it the sun was shining, though definately need some more practice but did have the excuse of the hammy. Returned home after quite a good day to Pinkos backyard to have a beer sit in the sun, chat and play a game of scrabble which is becoming more and more competitive! Well pulled the camera out of my pocket and well the screen was broken! This is the camera that is waterproof/shockproof well it did break! This camera is only 2-3months old so now just have to find time to go back to the shop and get it repaired. SHIT thing number 2
So things always come in threes and they better as really getting over this. Last night after just getting home from work Ed my flatmate asked if I'd seen or borrowed his bike, no I hadn't as I have my own bike, it was near his in our backyard. Well it seems that someone has walked into our backyard and just decided to stroll off with our bikes, SHIT thing number 3 so now I am bike less in Canberra and will have to go to the cop shop and file a report and hope that my bike just turns up somewhere. The bikes were there on Monday morning so some bludgers or kids whilst we have been at work have walked into our backyard and checked everything out, glad the house was locked because by the looks of things they also checked out our garage as the door was left wide open (no lock but no valuables in there).
Anyway enough of my rambling, things can only get better, with the Rugby World Cup starting this weekend, 6 weeks of sleep deprivation! A long weekend approaching which involves a road trip to Griffith and another trip to Sydney my blog will get back to coverving the normal nonsense and shenanigans!!

Car Shopping in Canberra

Well thought after some time in the hilux I was due for an upgrade! So Pinko and I hit the streets on Saturday to check out what was available! The first car I looked at was the Mitsubishi 380, this car was value for money (19990, 38000km) and drove really well and when you throw in a 5 year warranty this is pretty hard to beat. This was the first car I looked at, drove and the eventual winner on the day. This car was such good value that everywhere we went dealers just didn't want to sell me a car, the toyota dealer even told me to go buy the 380! There were 2 cars that were comparable on the day a subaru liberty, though had a few more ks on the clock and well 5 yr warranty came into play! the other car was a holden sv8 but who can't afford to run a v8 let alone insure one!
So by the end of the day I had decided on the 380 and went and put a deposit on it today and hopfully I will have the car by the end of this week! I will give a full review on the car after a longer drive hopefully to Yass for a round of golf on sunday!

Looking at a falcon, but never really been a fan and not worth the extra $6ooo.

Got told about the Monaro that was great value at 50k, thanks but no thanks not quite what I was looking for!

Trying to get a deal on the Liberty, ended up being comparable and always a nice car, good resale and reliable but no 5 year warranty.

Pinko agreed with my end choice, now all was left to choose a colour blue, silver white or gold?

Ians entering product testing

After some experiences with new toys and the weekend approaching to test drive some cars (any suggestions?), thought would add in my 2c on the products I've used

K2 Silencer - Tested at Thredbo

I ventured upto the ski slopes on the weekend with some mates from Whistler and remininsce, coming back to work was quite difficult. On this weekend as my skis are still in Canada, I decided to demo a pair of twin tip skis I was thinking about purchasing. I hired out some K2 silencers (169cm, standard mount). These skis worked a treat were quite responsive and got great flex which was handy through the park and just generally free skiing in Aussie conditions which was hard in the early morning and slush from around 11. I don't think these would handle powder conditions of bigger mountains brilliantly but on piste and park these are great, some definate more testing required. The best thing about the skis is they are value and held up well to some harder treatment especially when doing park often resulting in damaged side rails and bases. The only issue that I had with the skis is how easily the top deacal chipped/peeled, my style doesn't help this but seems to be a common thing in K2 skis. If your learning to ski I don't reccomend these skis but if your planning on visiting the snow a bit and dont won't to blow the budget cos the mountains in Aus pretty much do that for you (really $100 day lift ticket does hurt the pocket) try out the Silencers.

Smith versus Spy

With my trip to the snow after getting the shits with my Spy Blizzard goggles, 3 lenses all crap decided to fork out a little extra cash and buy some Smith Prodigy goggles. I must say here and now if going to fork out money for goggles do it properly and you'll notice the difference from comfort, visibility and fog wise! After perservering a whole season in Whistler with the Spys which would readily fog up and then the issues with water between the lenses which pretty much means they are screwed and time to by another lens, the Smiths were unbelieveable, they didn't fog, were comfortable and the strap system is much better especially when wanting to ski with and without a helmet. Though the Smiths havent been through a whole season I definately think next time around ignore the fashion styled goggles and go with the goggles with good reputation in lens and anti-fog. Also don't trust the hype Spy Blizzards were the top snowboarding goggles last season

Anyway enough procrastination in the office from me off to do some work and think about what cars Pinko and I should test drive on the weekend.

Scrabble, Rummikub, some hockey and catching up with Friends

Well another weekend has past in Canberra, pretty crazy thinking have now been here nearly 2 months! The weekend again started on Thursday night at O'Neils, this is good fun but is becoming a dangerous tradition especially when others decide (Ash & Elene) that Civic is a good idea and party till all hours, glad decided against this as could of made friday at work very difficult! Friday was North bar for free champagne then a few of us decided dinner was a good idea so off to Jimmy's Kitchen in Dickson we went, can highly reccommend it all the meals that we had were delicious and easily fed the four of us. It was then decided after dinner to head out to Jess' place to watch a couple of movies, we headed out to Jess' place with some more drinks and decided to play board games instead! Rimsy champion of rummikub lost his first game, must say think had begginers luck. Then it was scrabble where Tracey, Rims and I had forged a lead against Jess who then came from the back to leave us in her wake! A movie was turned on but quickly decide against as we all crashed out! Had a very enjoyable evening and definately will do again. After getting back to my place on Saturday had the big breakfast at a cafe in Watson, again this place I can highly reccommend, coffee was nice, service good, food delicious and quite an extensive breakky menu, not the cheapest around but worth the couple of extra dollars. Off to hockey to role my ankle in the first 30 seconds no reserves so played the whole game, think didn't help the team much lost 3-2 to wests, 1 goal to me but missed about 5!
The sore ankle and previous late night I thought would just kick back and recover but Genevieve was in town and after not seeing her for a couple of years was great to catch up! Ended up going out again then to Cathys place (Gens friend whos 30th bday it was) to have a couple of drinks then sunday involved lazing round, watching DVDs and eating another big breakfast cooked by Cathy for her guests, which I am very grateful for especially since I was a random!
On a totally different note my parents headed to Mudgee for a Dog show and Felix won best in show which Mum was stoked with, so thought would throw in couple of photos of that.

Genevieve and I out at King O'Malleys just having a few pints, awesome to catch up maybe should do it more than every 2-3 years.

Going to have to get a bigger lounge, especially when the pup grows up, As you can see by Maddison the kids have been sent to the floor!

Dinner and Drinks x 2 and one crazy limo!

Well what a weekend back at work wondering where it went. After some warm ups on Thursday night at O'Neils on the $2.50 pints had a casual day on friday at work as jeans for genes day then we headed out to our mid year work dinner. We went to the Harem in Kingston with the cushion room and belly dancer to top of the turkish banquet. It was very enjoyable and great to sit down and have a beer with everyone! I of course prob made a spectacle of myself especially as I wasnt going to let full bottles of red go to waste so just walked out of the restaurant drinking from them very classy! By this stage it was just all the guys and gals out for a few more drinks so wasn't as random! This night though did make the drive the next day to Sydney a little harder, no not as hard as the drive back after Saturday night! 100years of hockey at Sydney Uni and it seems like the club has stuck to its guns and all had a great night. Hopefully it was a success and before you know it Sydney Uni might have a hockey pitch. The day started with lunch with the grandparents with some fresh bread and fresh prawns gotta love the fish markets! After lunch it was to Renwick St to get ready organise the booze and wait for the limo which at 6 arrived and took 13 of us around the city for some pres and great time well worth it, champagne flowed and the tunes cranked! Dinner at the Great Hall followed by drinks at the Grose and the Marly where I left due to prob to much to drink not enough sleep and the thought of 3hours drive on the sunday, though when went and picked up the car think I made the right decision as a number of people had just returned home, this being at 11am the next day. All in all a great weekend catching up with old mates and meeting new people. So until next time keep it real!

A Weekend back in Cowra

On the weekend just past I went home to feed the dogs whilst the parents went to Sydney. It was also convienient as have just found a new place in Canberra and needed to move in.
I had a really good weekend catching up with Ranko, Will and Mel at the last Cowra Rugby game for the season, unfortunately the Eagles struggled a bit and lost 1sts and 2nds by a fair margin. It was then to Rankos for Dinner, big thanks it was awesome just catching up. Ranko and I then went to the townhouse for a night out, whilst Will and Mel went home but thats fair enough. On that note congratulations and all the best to Will and Mel who are expecting their first child, so thanks heaps Mel for putting up with three guys getting on the sauce.
The main reason I had to go home though was to feed the dogs which seem to be constantly increasing in number!
We had a litter of border collie pups though the litter was only one which is rare and a big surprise as thought that June wasn't even pregnant. Maggie (the pup) is now 6 weeks and taking over.

The film (Golden Compass) looks interesting (saw preview in theatre) and by the sounds of it the trilogy are worth a read or so I've been told. Looks like got some reading to do before the film comes out in December, might throw in my thoughts once books read also have been told to Harry Potter is worth a read but might take more convincing to read these but if i do thats another 7 to look at, might cut into some of my partying!.

In other news I have found a house in Dickson, the Monc v2. Living with two other guys, Phil and Ed who seem pretty cool and very laid back. So a very big THANKYOU to Pinko and Jen for perservering with me for the last few weeks. I have started playing hockey for ANU and had first game, first win for the season, 5-0 the fitness has alot to be desired!

The next few weeks I am being kept busy with moving house, functions and trying to fit in some work. On the 4th of August is the 100year anniversary for Sydney University Hockey Club and this should be an awesome event and really looking forward to catching up with all those haven't seen in a while. To turn up in class to this black tie event I have chipped in with a couple of mates and hiring a limo for the pres which at the rate the moneys going could be passion pop!

Moved to Canberra, Living at the Fox (temporarily) and

experiencing Singstar!

I have made the move to Canberra and trying to cope with the cold. The job with GRDC is enjoyable though keeps me busy. Started indoor cricket and joined the Salmon & trout team with Pinko, Rimsy, Phil and a few other boys on Wednesday nights, this is great fun though my cricket still needs some improvement. Joined ANU hockey club which will test out my fitness was just enquiring about the club and possibly training when they asked me to play this weekend, still haven't told mum cos of thumb but should be right!
After the rushed move over to Canberra to start the job, I have moved in with Jen And Pinko until I find a place, hopefully soon but must say a huge thanks to them both for inviting me in and putting up with me.
The Fox is renown for its Singstar events and after craftily missing most so that no one could discover the star that is me and my fabulous singing voice I got caught out and participated in a very enjoyable evening, though I did not like to kept being told that I was tone deaf as already knew this! Looking forward to the next one to scare the local cats and dogs away!

Yeah I got a job, a temporary return to sanity!
I thought that I would just keep you all in the loop after 2 months of unemployment I have finally got a job and it sounds pretty good, bit left field but hey to good to pass up. Got a job with GRDC Grains Research and Development Corporation as an Administrative Coordinator in the Practices Division. So I am moving to the beautiful metropolis of Canberra, so will be keeping company the students and the public servants and hopefully a number of trips to the snow as the hands are all but recovered. Apart from this not to much other news other than I've been out partying too much but thats not new I also have to agree with Pinko free champange on Fridays is quite good, a few more to come I hope. Cowra Picnics here we come might be a little late due to work but will attempt to attend.

Still at home, still unemployed but the hands getting better

Had the wire removed from my hand and is all good will be back to hockey and skiing in August only need to get a job to provide some cash for my hobbies. Have plans going to Sydney next few weekends hopefully some work will turn up there or in Canberra.
Put some photos of my hand from Friday before the removal of the wire, right thumb was about 2-3 the size of my left hand. I know have a themal plastic thumb brace which have to wear at all times.

Just keeping you all in touch

Thought would throw in an update on what I've been doing for the last couple of weeks back home waiting for my hand to repair and a job to magically appear. Since I've been home its had its moments though doing nothing can be some what tedious. Had a week in Sydney catching up with everyone even managed to catchup with Pia on her visit from W.A. Was great to see everyonrthen headed upto Newcastle for Grandfathers 75th, saw all the family and supervised all the jobs, so broken hands do have perks, then again did miss out on water skiing and wakeboarding. Caught octopus on Saturday morning, then Llewellyn caught a 2.45kg flathead off the jetty, had both for lunch sunday. The flathead is biggest fish I've seen caught up the lake in a long time and even more impressive was that it was just off the side.
Caught up with Paula before she took off, hope you have a good trip Paula and have Packed enough stuff or rather the right stuff.
On the weekend went to the Cowra dog show as helped olds with the dogs as they were busy helping organise everything, ended up being there all day saturday and sunday, I even had a good time, which I am still trying to come to terms with. I even showed a dog, which is the first time done that in about 15years. Anyway that is all for now wire finally comes out of thumb on friday, so hopefully will be back to all but functional.

Well I am back and going a little stir crazy!!

Hey all I have returned from my travels albeit a little early so I am now living back in Cowra with the folks which I really havent done in years. Have been going a little nuts as havent been allowed to drive or work, I have been home watching loads of crappy midday TV travelled to Sydney drank and then decided to get a haircut and have a shave still trying to work out if that was a good idea now look semi respectable will have to start looking for work. Have had one cast taken off, though hand is still on bout 75% no strength at all the other hand has had the stiches removed a cast put back on and told at least another 4 weeks till the wires removed then its to the OT and physio yeah months of doing nothing. Hope all is well will try catch up with everyone ASAP, same mobile number as before I left and well the parents still live in the same place in Cowra

The return of the broken ski bum

Hey all just found out I am flying out back into the country on Sunday 29th thats in like two days so I am going to Lunch at the Roxbury for a couple of cold beers before I go back to Cowra to recover. All those who can make it would be awesome to catch up as only going to be in Sydney for a couple of hours, so will be at the Roxbury from 12 til 3 then I go into seclusion until I am repaired. broken, battered and oh yeah broken!
Well as the season comes to an end thought why not test out how my skis go at high speeds, well the skis went well but i ended up a little worse off. broken left hand, hairline fracture that was the minor injury. I dislocated my right thumb and tore the ligament off the bone, this required surgery in Vancouver so i now have wire in my thumb and require more surgery so looks like i am coming home in the next couple of weeks.

Went on a road trip to Vancouver cos fred was going home and i couldnt ski so 5 of us went out and got rowdy. well the weathers not always perfect but its still pretty good

Final weeks in Whistler
As the time approaches for me to get organised for the next part my trip I find I am more and more disorganised. It has been awesome fun and really looking forward to the Telus festival which goes for the last 2 weeks of the season and means that there is heaps of concerts on and lots of pro riders and skiers to watch. So as the season comes to an end there are loads of farewell parties as everyone goes separate ways. In other news not alot has been happening just getting the last few weeks of skiing in the sun which is awesome developing a pretty mean goggle tan. fly out on the 5th of May to the UK then who knows just keeping my eyes open for jobs there and at home. Well Happy Easter to everyone and will keep you all updated.

More fun in Canada
Hello all as my time is winding down in Whistler a month or so to go. I have been slowly trying to get organised but as always an expert at procrastination.
I finally got around to seeing an ice hockey game live it was great fun, weird atmosphere only downer the expensive beers (can$7.50ea) especially cos the beer here is not that flash. Vancouver won inextra time beating St. Louis 3-2.

In other news Dad and Llewellyn have come over to Canada for a week for their birthdays 50th and 16th. Its been great to catch up and ski with them. I am finally getting better at skiing but see how long that lasts before I hurt myself, it is inevitable but your only young once.

Keeping you all updated!!

Hey all hope this finds you all well.
Life has been pretty much the same with work and skiing, started playing social ice hockey with a bunch of mates on tuesday nights its great fun even though half of us cant skate so the 10 year olds run rings around us. All the lifties who play hockey are in the process of growing mos, so am sporting a pretty crazy set of handlebars yet again. Planning next stage of my trip flying out of Canada at the start of May so on the look out for jobs in England. Have started to go pretty pasty due to lack of sun so will definately fit in in the UK, though sproting a decent goggle tan.
In other news for my old mans 50th and Llewellyns 16th they are coming to visit for a week in March so hoping the snow stays around for that.
Not many photos at the moment but hopefully will rectify that in the next few days, maybe even a few photos of me pretending to work in my new smurf coloured lifty jacket.

My bday, Aussie Day, Pay day, any excuse to party!!
Well its all good over here have been working hard partying harder. went bungee jumping with group of friends on bday was awesome, aussie day did a all mountain pub crawl was pretty intresting trying to ski by the end of the day. Now moved chairs on the mountain so not in the learning centre anymore which is a good change.

Hope all is well at home. I' m working hard as a lifty and still having a ball at the moment prepping for my b'day on the weekend so going bungee jumping, then Aussie day next week which is meant to go off tap so having a pres party to listen to Triple J hottest 100 then skiing all day probably drinking goon and cheap beer. Had a costume party the other day so went as a mime which involved strutting round the pub in my thermals and painting my face white!
Love it though jager, 20c chicken wings and altitude is playing havoc on me.

Well its still snowing

Hope all had you all had a great christmas it was a very white christmas over here which I spent working then new years day also working but hey have to do it so I can afford to keep partying. The snow is still falling only had one day which was really bad rained all day and was cold and found out that although our uniforms are meant to be waterproof they cant sustain downpours finished work looking like had just jumped out of the shower. The skiing is getting better slowly but surely but still love rolling around in the snow an awful lot, but its all good fun! am keeping upto date with the news at home and having good time rubbing in to all the poms the 5-0 whitewsh in the ashes now just waiting until Aussie Day which goes off suposably over here. Anyways hope all is well and will keep in touch.

BRUISED, BATTERED and BROKE, but LOVING IT.
The pay is lousy, its been -24C and I've hurt myself a number of times but Iam having an absolute ball. The party lifestyle here is insane and going to bed at 2.30 then having a 5am start was interesting and entertaining all those involved!!

HEY FROM WHISTLER

Well its awesome over here with the season officially starting. All the people i'm working with are pretty cool and really laid back. I have started my job as a lifty in the learning centre which is good fun. Have been shovelling snow a fair bit so keeping me in check and been up mountain once going up again tomorrow then work for 4 days with 3 days off so pretty laid back. Had Travis' 21st the other day was good fun had dinner with a group of friends in town then went out, Travis had a good night til had a reaction to shellfish and had to go home so will have to have another party cos of this! I have finally got net set up so am going to start posting some photos!

Hey All a quick update no photos but getting net at home and had blackout today!

Well its getting close to the ski season starting now with some lifts opening on the 18th which is awesome also travis' 21st!!
To tell you the truth has been pretty quiet waiting for work to start so that i can pay off all the ski gear i have bought just picked up my new skis they look awesome! There is always something happening over here and i just hope to survive the season. I got a job on Whistler mountain working as a lifty in the learning centre so helping kids all day on the magic carpets and rope tow, is meant to be a pretty good job as kept busy all day but means i don't get to ski in my breaks as much cos at bottom of the mountain.
I have been pretty slack with this blog and will ensure that when i get power back on at home that will pull finger out

Well another update on my adventures!

Well Seattle was all good, great party town after this jumped on the train and headed to Portland, Oregon, very chilled city has an awesome art gallery and pretty good beer. Has 35 micro-breweries in the local area, they love the stuff, for me its a bit hit and miss with taste, Pinko could start your own brewiung company easy! Jumped back on the train for another 10 hours and got to San Francisco, pretty cool city but why the hell they couldn't somewhere flat i dont know did some crazy injury to my foot and nearly couldnt walk for three days but perservered caught up with Paula after here tree hugging adventure, then finally caught up with my little bro stayed in San Fran for about a week and then headed back up north. Definately worth the trip south to check out US West Coast, so glad bro was behind schedule though monetary funds felt the impact.

Well we got back to Vancouver, got way to drunk with bro at a place called Malones which by no accident was beneath our hostel and then headed across to Victoria and checked out the town, nice place not alot happens.

Have hired a car for two weeks to do a road trip but only got as far as Whistler (12okm north) and decided that did want to work here so now driving to the border so Travis can activate visa and i can set up security number, prob going to try and stay the whole season if can find a place to crash. Going to live with brother, Lisa (Travis' friend from camp) and Corrine (Lisa friend) All aussies, at Aussie north as the Vancouver locals refer to whistler.
Whistler is starting to get cold so the camping has been good fun but think will be coming to an end other wise will be submerged in the snow. (Travis and I bought $50 tent for trip, is really good).

Favourite City thus far - Seattle for nightlife, Portland for chilled factor.

Love the mountains are spectacular.

Still have to download photos from mp3 player but has flat batteries so next time. Will try and keep the updates more regular and tell some more stories.

From Stanley Park to the Space Needle

Well thought would put up a post as i still try and get over the jet lag that has been destroying me and possibly the couple of beers that have been consumed.
I've always been told the worst part of travelling is the airports. Well this was very true from the outset with the plane being delayed 3hours from Sydney then after already doing security checks in Aus had to go through it all again at Honolulu. Though this now means I have been to Hawaii, though no photos because of security reasons. Arrived in Vancouver at 130pm instead of the 10am time arrived with 3 other flights, so was in customs and immigration until 5pm though i did meet Josh in customs and Adam in Immigration, this was a sign of things to come. Once got into Vancouver settled in for a couple of brews waiting for Josh to arrive, poor bastard didn't get in till 7pm so a few more pints were had. This led to heading into the irsih pub next door and meeting up with Darryl and Bev an english couple met on the Shuttle bus into town. This turned into quite a debaucherous evening and well the 9.30 bedtime came and went and so did the first canadian dollars!! So the next day it was the tour of Vancouver, out to Stanley Park for a morning stroll, then down to Chinatown for Lunch. Great city and even better way to work off the excessive alcohol. Back to the hotel sleep and then back to the pub for dinner and beers, though only a couple of pints due to Adam having to leave at 430 the next morning for Toronto and Josh leaving at 7 for Seattle.

As I am meant to be meeting Travis, I thought Ibetter stay in Vancouver but hes not answered his phone so am now in Seattle with Josh cos thought would be cool. So the Space Needle tomorrow and some cool music then Josh heads off to Minneapolis and I am going to keep heading south in search of my brother next stop Portland and San Francisco.
Anyway will post photos next time round and let you know of my adventures, and how much spending american dollars hurts the hip pocket.

Only 17 Days left in the country

Well I am getting quite close to my expedition and meeting up with my little bro who is currently going nuts in the US. Just throwing in a quick update to keep you all posted and to kill time at work (last week) so theres plenty of procrastination and just a little relaxing.
Still kicking along with hockey, though we did lose the major semi on Saturday which was a little disapointing (4-3) so got another chance this weekend to make the Grandfinal will see how we go. I struggled a little and pretty sure that this weekend I won't go out on the piss the evening before, you'd think one would learn but keep destroying myself.
Having farewell drinks on this Saturday evening at the Roxbury from 7pm, all welcome will be good to catch up before going, will try and catch up with those who can't make it before i go.

Anyway better get back to doing some work and trying to be organised for my flight out.

Who let me near a mic!!

Well after having to play hockey or the threat of not being selected for finals I missed my second Belco Bash, hope it was a good night and Happy Birthday Paula!! So i stayed around Sydney to get absolutely belted in hockey 5-0 by a team that is 4 places lower than us on the ladder, so now theres a bit more work to do for the finals but you get that.
After the debacle of pretending to play hockey went to the annual Sydney Uni Karaoke night in which yours truly was one of the hosts and belted out a few tunes, good times but not really a fan of singing to a crowd sober, anyway this photo is where a couple of mates got up to give me a hand Cheers boys!!
Had a pretty chilled sunday and to bowls in the arvo, what a great sport (though is very much like pool and you must get your beer intake just right) then back to Camden for 3 more weeks of work.
So as I slowly get organised for my trip I am thinking of having farewell dinner and drinks up in Sydney on the 9th of September, will keep you all posted!!

From the Races to the Olympics

Well as per usual work has been much the same, but am counting down to my trip, have actually bought the plane ticket and am now waiting on a couple of visas so I can work and therefore afford to travel. I am flying out on the 20th of September so prob will have a couple of quiet drinks a couple of weeks beforehand will keep you all posted. In the social side of things went back home to the Cowra races and was good to catch up with those i havent seen for a while even though at some stage in the evening everything starts to get a little hazy, the photos I put in are early in the day socialising and what happens after a couple of rum cans (or possibly a dozen). Saturday night was a quiet one, went to a BBQ for dinner though beer did feel like razorblades and my eyes still seemed to be blurry and focus on anything.

On the weekend after hockey, where we were victorious in the top of the table clash we decided to celebrate at the Hampshire in Camperdown with some mates. The party was olympic themed and everyone dressed up though I really don't wont to see a guy in womens swimmers again. I went as part of the Swiss swim team (red and white tracksuit from the salvos and easiest flag to draw). Had a good night only lost the googles and one floatie on the walk home. Would of taken a couple more pics but phone died, others were taking photos so will put them up when i get them if there any good!

So much for a quiet weekend!!

Just thought would keep you all posted with what I am upto at the moment in preparation for the Cowra races next week, thought I should start by saving some money so went to a Jungle party at the Glebe hockey clubhouse were cheap beers were flowing, after telling everyone it was going to be a quiet night i woke up on Sunday morning/arvo and couldn't work out why my face was so sore had a look in the mirror to be greeted by a fairly decent shiner, with some major memory loss i quickly went about trying to find out what had happened and be then able to explain my story. After slowly piecing the night together i found out at around 4 in the morning i tried to have a fight with the concrete floor of the clubhouse and came off second best. Oh well least was in the winning boat races team (won 2 out of 3)! So pretty much the loosest night out I’ve had in a while all in preparation for the Cowra races, so looking forward to catching up with all those going.

Still Recovering from the Long weekend!!
After an epic weekend which involved lots of alcohol some partying and a lot of lost memories my body was just starting to recover then it was the weekend again, which involved trivia and Clare and Tims Farewell, all the best guys enjoy Ireland will be catching up for some Guiness when I'm passing through. Thought I would throw in some photos of the long weekend there were more photos but turned out dodgy because was using my phone and the operator was perhaps a little unsteady.

Cheers to Batty who called into pubcrawl on his way to Newcastle, This is at the only pub I actually got my camera out and was light enough to see what was going on.

Can even get the poms to wear green and gold when there is rugby tickets on offer. Rob over here for drinking, hockey and supposably work came to the England vs Australia Rugby match where the Wallabies won not a great game but great night.

This about tells the story of me, was half way through the pub crawl and well every thing after this pub starts to get a little hazy, but a great night, excellent turn out and hope all who turned up had a good night.

This is just before the rugby, Bundy thought it would be smart to let us into there corporate function before the game, obviously it was!! Heaps of free rum and got us all in the mood for the game in our bundy overalls. The boys decided to enter the rugby you must be pirates.

I did have photos of trivia and photos from the empire but they didnt turn out. Came last in the Trivia, will make the excuse that our team did miss 4 rounds, but got the consolation prize of free mini bottles of Inner circle OP rum which helped to keep the night going at Empire which still looks the same at 4 in the morning.

Bout time for an update cos people are starting to ask questions
Well its around that time again and thought would let you all know whats going on. At the moment been flat out with work still playing with compost but am only staying around until September then I am taking off to Canada to meet up with my little bro who is leaving for the States to do Summer camp stuff in 2 weeks. Once over there will be being a ski bum then going to europe and hopefully will still be there for the Rugby world Cup.
Anyways thats months away so at the moment pretending I can play hockey and working on the Social commitee so if anyones in Sydney on the friday of the long weekend (9th June) you should all come and chime in for the Annual SUHC Pub Crawl.
I have just started another homebrew nothing as flash as Pinkos, its just a Tooheys lager so will see how that goes, though the cooler weather is being a pain and the heater is getting used.

The first shows a hockey match I was watching the other week (not my team or the team I coach cos I never remeber to take photos of those) well in the background is a cyclone that is going to hit us maybe its only a willy-willy but it looked cool.
The second is what I am doing at work, cos it wont rain I have to do rainfall simulations on my experimental plots which involves putting water on watching the thing go for an hour than writing how much water runs off, plenty of siestas are had whilst waiting for the simulation to finish.

A RARE UPDATE.
Thought i'd throw a spanner in the works and update a bit sooner than a month, got to love procrastination. Flat out at work and still really wish that it would rain.
On the social scene, well thats always busy had new players night for SUHC a couple of Fridays back and it was huge with our new sponser The Roxbury Hotel (St Johns Rd, Glebe) loving us. Should be some photos published soon on the hockey website, also more photos of Albury (www.suhc.asn.au).
Well not really alot of time for much else apart from its been ages since I have caught up with alot of people in particular the Cowra crew or is it now ex-Cowra as none of us seem to reside there anymore??
Currently my homebrew is going strong still only got the Gingerbeer but it seems to be pretty popular, thinking bout a Lager in the next couple of weeks then will have to organise a taste off with the experienced Pinko.
Anyways better actually do some work, no photos this time but will update again soon, Cheers.

WOW, its been over a month since i 've done anything so better let you all know whats been doing.
Anyway where to start work is getting intense cos now about a month behind schedule, but guess you just have to deal with that.
Since i last put anything in i was still playing cricket well we made the Grandfinal and lost but a great time was had by all especially since we all got rolling drunk then tried to play the second day, Thanks to all the guys in the Gnomes and our support for a great season.
Hockey has now started and got off with its usual gusto, preseason drinks Huge woke up in my car with minimal recollection of how i got there. We played our first game and won 5-1 (playing 5th grade on the field) , then the easter long weekend, well i dont know where to start, went to Albury for a hockey carnival, it was pretty much drinking and trying to play hockey blind, I was keeping so it made life a little difficult and the 6 hour drive back was always going to be fun. We made the GF but lost 1-0 with some dubious decisions made by the umps but hey we all were there for a good time. I have included a photo of our team, after our final, the zinc got pretty crazy and my first day back at work every ones looking at me funny cos have still got some on. Anyway if i continue this is going to turn into an epic, plus theres always the rule what happens on tour stays on tour. Anyway will try to keep you all more updated with the trials and tribulations of the life of me.

An Update cos its been bout a month

Hey All, sorry no photos left my camera at a mates place and havent been taking all that many pic cos i am lazy.
Update since last is i fell off the wagon with a crash (Anges B'day bowls) and revisting old haunts at ridiculous hours these being the Empire and the Gross also still getting kicked out.
Still working in Camden and just got an extension until September so will be round Sydney for a couple more months. Just started on this home brew caper and am keen to see if i can show Pinko up, will have to have a tasting weekend sometime. Anyways pretty busy at the moment, at least for a public servant. Just an Update to get you all off my Back
As you all can tell I have been pretty lazy of late and thought I better throw in an update cos everyone else seems to be updating. Whats goss? Well Aussie day at the beach was basically four days on the piss starting at the Rege on wed, Coogee Thurs, Harold Park for the trots on Fri (Ex workers get together, free grog, cheap feed) Then Orange races cos i could on Saturday( Bloody bookies didnt let me win even in the three horse races). Hence the now self imposed Detox been going three weeks only had 1 beer and 1 glass of wine so far so good. Anyway got some photos of the mighty Gnomes cricket team from the game on the weekend so thought would chuck it in, its a two dayer but we fielded first and I got out for two so to test my detox strength a whole day of cricket with no beer plus Ange is having Bowls (Happy late bday).

Walking off after a long day in the field, we dropped a fair few catches, not long after this I was out for two and walking the same path.

BIRTHDAY NIGHT OUT
Thought i'd keep you all updated on whats going on no photos cos i'm lazy and always forget the camera. The Gnomes got up for a win on saturday (thats the cricket team) then back to Remos for a couple of hands of poker and then went into Bondi to catch up with Tim, Pinko (recently returned from Thailand), Roberts, Paula, Ange, Gus and Rims. Great time was had at Mocena underground bar (Bondi) where we were entertained by a 70s party that was cranking, some great outfits, expensive but the beer was nice and cold. Mansions sure has changed from the old days. Drinks were had by till all hours and I was barred from empire yet again. Thanks guys had a great night out, looking forward to Aussie Day at the beach. Will try and remember to take some pics next time am out.

New Years Eve was had in the Berra, drinking Pinkos homebrew. The hot weather was too much so the brumby came in handy, even doing a quick lap of the Fox cul-de-sac with minimal water loss and not much beer spillage. Thanks for the hospitality Pinko and more importantly the beer. Not sure how my shocks held up to the pool but was well worth it and more summer days will be had in the back of the subes.

Christmas in Cowra. A dash back from Camden to have Chrissy with the folks. Most of the photos are blurry due to the crazy Christmas eve in Cowra. Travis and I were struggling for the next couple of days. Great to see everyone even if i was pretty scatter brained.
